Preserving Sound, Honoring History

There are few activities that remain so deeply rooted in traditional methods and techniques as the arts and crafts involved in lutherie.

For more than 15 years, I trained with masters from around the world in the construction, restoration, and conservation of historical instruments, as well as in anthropological, organological, and musicological research on the evolution of stringed instruments.

These experiences have given me a deep respect for the knowledge and understanding required to preserve these arts and crafts, and I have taken on the responsibility of dedicating myself to passing on as much of the knowledge I have acquired as possible to future generations.

The Legacy of Luthería

I came to this craft through different stages in my life (technical studies, university and self-taught, artistic and theatrical, business, administrative, and therapeutic work).

Thus, I have been working with bowed and plucked string instruments, including violins, cellos, harps, lyres, pianolas, mandolins, lutes, vihuelas, classical, romantic, Renaissance, and Baroque guitars, for almost 20 years.

I currently reside in Montevideo, Uruguay, where I continue to develop and pass on my skills, in collaboration with other fellow musicians, luthiers, and apprentices.

I am very fortunate to enjoy these collaborations with teachers, historians, and cultural institutions dedicated to preserving instruments in public and private collections around the world.

Lutherie Courses

Without the transmission of knowledge, many arts and crafts are doomed to die out with their masters.

Having dedicated my life to lutherie, I believe it is important that this profession be preserved and continue to develop in the future, and this is what drives me to offer my personalized courses.

In these classes, we carry out specific tasks, focusing on the concrete objectives necessary to complete each apprentice's projects.

In addition to being one of the kindest people I have met in Montevideo, his work restoring my archlute was beautiful and made it possible for me to do the concert. I thank you immensely Alfredo.
