Preserving Sound, Honoring History

Few crafts maintain their roots in tradition as much as lutherie.

I've had the incredibly fortunate experience of training over the course of more than 15 years with master luthiers around the world in the construction, history, and evolution of stringed instruments.

This experience has given me a profound respect for my craft and the understanding that in order to preserve this art, it is my responsibility to transmit my knowledge to future apprentices.

A Legacy of Lutherie

My craft has put me in intimate contact working with bowed and plucked string instruments, including violins, cellos, harps, lyres, pianolas, mandolins, lutes, and theorbos, vihuelas, classical, romantic, renaissance, and baroque guitars.

Currently, I reside in Montevideo, Uruguay, where I continue actively developing and transmitting my skills with other master luthiers and apprentices.

I am also incredibly fortunate to enjoy collaborations with musicians, historians, and cultural institutions, dedicated to preserving instruments from public and private collections around the world.

Lutherie Courses

Without the transmission of knowledge, many time-honored crafts are doomed to die out with their masters. It is my duty after dedicating my life to lutherie to ensure that my profession is preserved and continued well into the future, as it has been in the past.  This is what drives me to offer individualized courses to cultivate the next generation of luthiers.

In our classes, we review specific areas of the craft or take an individualized approach to address a student's specific goals.

In addition to being one of the kindest people I have met in Montevideo, his work restoring my archlute was beautiful and made it possible for me to do the concert. I thank you immensely Alfredo.
